United in a Changing Landscape

More severe weather hits the Cheviots

25th, September 2012

The heavy rainfall is forecast to continue throughout the rest of today and into tonight.

Extreme weather events and prolonged multi-day storms are predicted to increase as a result of climate change for the area - Cheviot Futures urges farmers and land managers to take adaptive action to become more resilient.

Farm Resilience Planning and Flood Plans can assist the preparation for responses to flood events.

Key actions are to re-locate vulnerable livestock, clear the floodplain of all stored materials, protect vulnerable buildings and move stored materials and equipment to safe locations - either at height or out of the flood risk area.
