Works underway on the College Burn, Kirknewton

21st, August 2012

Works are finally underway at our erosion protection site at Kirknewton.
These works have been rescheduled a number of times during the summer 'riverworks' season due to the excessive rainfall and associated problems with materials supply.

However, on 13th August contractors R. Thornton and Co Ltd arrived on site to begin work and the timber structure is now taking shape.

At the present time efforts have been concentrated on the upstream section of works which have been constructed whilst working from a dry sediment shoal.

The next section of work requires working from within the river channel, including temporary works to divert the main flow of water away from the working area.

Work should be completed by early September.

This project is being carried out in partnership with the Environment Agency, making use of Northumbria Regional Flood Defence committee funding support in addition to Cheviot Futures capital funds.
