Cheviot Futures

United in a Changing Landscape

Members of the Whittingham Scout Group with HRH Prince Seesio of Lesotho at North Doddington, ready to plant a hedge!

Cheviot Futures makes royal links!

27th, October 2011

Cheviot Futures has recently been working with the 1st Whittingham BP Scout Group, who have made links with communities in the Kingdom of Lesotho, where there are real problems linked to erosion of soils.
This provided a perfect link to the work Cheviot Futures are leading on North Doddington, to resintate a hedgeline to act as a windbreak to reduce the effects of soil erosion and resultant soil losses.

As a result, Cheviot Futures hosted an evening planting activity for members of the scout group on Thursday 6th October, as part of a programme of activities relating to a visit to the group by HRH Prince Seesio of the Kingdom of Lestho.

The weather did not put the intrepid group off, despite wind, rain and hail, and the scouts planted a number of trees into the new hedgeline, while HRH Prince Seesio assisted by planting two standard trees.

Cheviot Futures will be co-ordinating the completion of the planting work during the winter of 2011-12, while the scout group are preparing for a planned expedition to Lesotho next year to plant trees out there with the intention of assisting the management of soil erosion and fuel provision.
